I was going to save this skirt for a special occasion, but I while I was getting ready to head out to lunch with Christopher today, we watched Kanye West make an incredible speech on Jimmy Kimmel about being creative, believing in yourself, going for for your dreams with passion and conviction, doing things that can make an impact on the world, and always standing up for yourself and what you believe in. Me being right in the middle of a career change, it was the pep-talk I didn't know I needed.
His speech also inspired me to hang up the lazy jeans/sweatshirt combo I was planning to leave the house in. I've been wanting to wear my skirt since I bought it a few weeks ago, but like I said, I've been waiting to wear it for an "event" or "special occasion", then I thought to myself, "If Kanye West has taught me anything about life, it's that, every single day is an occasion." No matter where you go, walk in the room like you own it. Drink champagne whenever the hell you feel like it. Put diamonds in your teeth if you want to. And, above all else, never pass up a chance to wear leather.
I love the way Kanye does black on black. It's usually a pair of leather pants with a cotton tshirt; I love the play on textures, and the juxtaposition of sleek, edgy, black leather, with a loose, casual tshirt. It looks cool, and effortless.
For my look, inspired by Kanye West, I paired my Zara skirt with a simple black tshirt. For a pop of color, I went with my sunny 3.1 Phillip Lim x Target satchel, it reminded me a bit of his gold chains (haha), but since I don't own any rope chains, this was as close as I could get.
Ball so hard
on a budget.
Next time you're not one hundred percent sure about your direction in life (or your outfit), ask yourself: What Would Kanye Do?
And, then, do that shit.
