SPLIT DECISION

Who isn't on the go these days?

We're all running errands non-stop, running around for meetings,  running to and from airports, running to catch our trains, our taxis, our connection buses—we hit the ground running every morning, and we never really stop.

On our busiest of days, can style and comfort coexist?

Dressing for a busy lifestyle can prove to be a bit challenging—it's like, I want to be stylish, but also, I want to be comfortable. I want to dress in a way that allows me to be as mobile as I need to be, without showing up to meetings in yoga pants.

Also, let's talk footwear. I'm definitely a girl who loves her heels, but have you ever tried running in heels? There are parts of DC that are still paved in cobblestone, and it's all fun and games in your black pumps, until you're falling face first in front of Dean and Deluca, while people are enjoying their morning lattes.

So, we a find balance. I think athleisure is a trend that, in my eyes, can give you the best of both worlds! If you do it right, athleisure can be your best friend. It works best when you're mixing up materials, structures, and volume for that perfect storm of relaxed meets pulled-together.

I typically try to incorporate leather since it tends to quickly take things up a notch, and then I'll balance it out with more casual pieces—lately, I've been loving leather and sweatsuit materials together. If it's a weekday and sweatsuits don't work for the office, maybe try a knitted sweater, instead.

I'm always one for details, so I think the more little details you can add to a look, the better. This sweater has a quirky side-zipper that I love, as it shows off more of the leather skirt, which has a split of its own down the back. These are small details that just give the look so much more personality.

Lastly, I swapped out my heels for these gorgeous Reebok Furylite sneakers. I love the pop of color and floral pattern—that bit of interest really freshens up my monochrome look. The satin-like finish takes them from being a regular shoe, to the star of the show, easily. These aren't your grandmother's walking shoes.

What I also love is that they are super comfortable and lightweight, so while I'm out location scouting, shooting photos, or running around the city like a mad-woman, I feel like I'm walking on clouds.

Honestly, it feels nice to not have to sacrifice style for comfort.

xx,
