Here in the DC area, we woke up to some snowy weather this morning! If there's anything I love, it's being bundled up inside with a warm drink while the snow falls. I wanted to start my day with some hot cocoa, but Christopher woke up feeling sick, and wanted a Hot Toddy to soothe his sore throat. I'm not one to pass up hot whiskey, so, I made us both one. Hot Toddies are easily the most consumed beverage in my household during the winter, especially, when one of us is feeling under the weather. It's really comforting, and tasty... and boozy. When I'm sick, this always makes me feel a bit better, and when I'm not sick, this always makes me feel better.
To make one, all you need is a lemon, honey, an ounce of whiskey (or gin, for a Gin Toddy), any tea of your choice, and hot water. I personally like to stick with Jack Daniel's Honey Liqueur because it blends really well with the rest of my drink, and the tea I use is Honey Vanilla Chamomile by Celestial Seasonings. It's all very calming, and soothing together, and you hardly even notice that you're getting tipsy.Prepare this drink just like you were making a mug of tea (I definitely recommend using a larger mug, 8 oz. or more), coat the bottom of your mug with honey, squeeze in the juice of half a lemon, add an ounce (a shot glass full) of your whiskey, then, add your hot water, and stir it all up until the honey is dissolved. Add in your tea bag, and steep it for about 2-5 minutes. I'm a lemon lover, so, I like adding a slice on top before I sip. And, voilà! There's absolutely nothing to this! Feel free to experiment with different tea flavors, and different types of alcohol. If you've never had one before, I'd definitely recommend the Honey Liqueur over straight up whiskey, but, it just depends on your own preference.
Anyway, we're finishing up our decorations for Christmas, and having a Harry Potter marathon, so I'm going to be pretty preoccupied for the next several hours. I have two more wintery drinks to share with you guys (and I just realized, they're also alcoholic, yeesh I'm worse than Sandra Lee haha), so stay tuned!
