Another day, another outfit post! Today's look is essentially my summer uniform! I wear denim cut offs practically everyday in the summer, because, they just work a variety of different ways, and depending on the style, you can even get away with dressing them up! The sheer jacket is actually a dress that I was this close to throwing into my donation boxes the other day, but, I decided to save it, because I liked how it looked open.
A month or so ago, I was in Reddz Trading in Georgetown, and there was this Halston dress that I couldn't decide if I wanted or not; as a dress, it was okay, but, once I left it open, like a jacket, it became so much more appealing! So now, I'm obsessed with finding button up dresses, and wearing them open, layered over jean shorts, pants, a skirt, or what have you. Something about the colors in this jacket give me 70s/vintage/boho vibes, so, I sort of played that up a bit by adding some platform wedges, big silver jewelry, and round sunnies.
Since these jeans are size too big in the waist, I rolled them over, instead of belting them—don't worry, they don't come unzipped or anything. It reminds me of when I was younger, we'd roll our oversized cheerleading shorts at the waist to make them shorter, and make them fit better, I've been doing it to pants ever since.
I'm a firm believer in repurposing items in your closet, if you can. The amazing thing about fashion is, there's not a right or wrong way to wear something—obviously, the intended purpose of this jacket was to be worn as a dress, but, as a dress, it had lost its luster. I love that I was able to save it, because I like it so much more like this; it almost resembles a kimono, or some really floaty robe. The sheer fabric is wonderful for the summer, because it's so light, and breathable, but, it does give me the layered look I'm going for, without making me totally regret layering in the Summer.
