I love minimalism. I love it in art, I love it in architecture and decor, I love it in beauty, and I love it in fashion. I think when you master minimalism, in whatever medium you want, you understand how to create things at their most basic level—you understand scale, texture, volume, and proportion, because you can easily see it. At some point in my life, I designed logos, and the rule of thumb for most designers is to start in black and white—if it's not visually striking or interesting in black in white, it won't work in color, either. I apply that to dressing myself, I feel like, if I can't dress my body well in plain black and white, then adding color and busy patterns isn't really isn't going to do much for me. Then, of course, there really is just joy (for me, at least) in dressing in black and white. :)Today's look is all about the volume and texture of these pants—I thought I had given up on harem pants, but, nope, every time I put these on, I just feel so cool! I paired these ASOS pants with a really simple, oversized tank top by H&M—they are my go to place for slouchy, basics, as I really do prefer most things a size or two larger than what I actually am. I think the draping effect of the fabric is so wonderful, and it just gives your look a little something different from the next person wearing something similar. Of course, I love my very sporty, and modern Shoemint heels; I can say without hesitation, these are my favorite heels to wear. They add just the right amount of edge to anything—also, they have a super pointed toe, which makes my legs look way longer than they are.
I could wear this outfit everyday, to be honest.
What about you, what are some principals you keep in mind when getting dressed?
